Food trucks, Fourth Street Live and Trader Joe’s making headlines in Louisville

October 21, 2011 by Ashlee Clark Thompson

I’ve been running around town like a chicken with its head cut off these past few days. Meanwhile, food news has been breaking all across Louisville.

  • Some changes to city ordinances pertaining to food trucks went into effect Oct. 14. But vendors, such as Lil Cheezers Gourmet Grilled Cheesemobile, say these changes could hurt their businesses, according to a story from WLKY. Read a press release from metro government explaining the reasoning behind the changes here. There’s also some great conversation about the topic happening in the comments section at Consuming Louisville.
  • An upscale restaurant and bar is going to fill part of the space left by Borders at Fourth Street Live, according to the Courier-Journal. But in response to an Ashlee Eats poll, readers of this blog wanted another retail store or a grocery story to replace the bankrupt bookstore.
  • The dream of Louisville foodies will come true next week when Trader Joe’s opens on Oct. 28. I’ll be there when the doors open (8 a.m.) to do some live tweeting under the hashtag #traderjoeslou. Who’s with me?

  1. I am so excited about TJ’s but so disappointed that they have decided to put an “upscale” restaurant in the old Border’s building downtown. Honestly, that place (4th Street Live) is becoming less and less appealing to me. It’s all food and bars, which we have plenty of all over the city. I know a few places down there have had to close, I don’t see how an expensive restaurant can flourish.
